Karen was one of the nicest, smartest in our class. She was a kind person. I lost touch with many of my classmates after graduating, and did not realize she lived in Chicago, my home town. Deepest condolences to her family; she will live on and be remembered fondly by many of us. |
|
From Pamela Thurber Duncan on March 31st, 2014
Karen clearly was one of the smartest members of the Class of 1965, if not the smartest. She joined Junior Neighbors, Inc. which I was helping to start, and I remember on the day that President Kennedy was shot walking up Blair Road to a gathering at her house. I lost touch with her after we graduated, something I really regreted, but gather that she was in academic life in Chicago. I see by the obituary that she left a son and two grandsons. Of course, her sister Donna was a wonderful person as well. Karen Edwards was a remarkable person.

WILLIAMS LEROY WILLIAMS, JR. "Lee" Joined his parents and older brother, among others, with Our Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 1, 2014. A native Washingtonian, he attended Keene Elementary, Rabaut Junior High and Coolidge High Schools. Lee briefly served with the local Army National Guard and the U.S. Navy; and, he was employed by the D.C. Board of Elections for almost 30 years before retiring as a computer specialist in October 2013. Lee loved his life! He especially relished sporting events - so much so that he sought and obtained a successful part-time gig as an usher at Verizon Center, where he enjoyed the camaraderie and friendship of his colleagues; and, sports - as a younger man, he was a fantastic volleyball player. Lee liked to travel, exercised by walking to most places, and doted on his niece and godchildren. He took great pleasure in being around good friends; and he took even greater pleasure in being around good food and those good people who could prepare it. As such, Lee steadfastly disallowed anyone to interfere with how he lived his life. He kept a couple of mini-journals; in one he copied: "Life is short. Don't make my day long." At the same time, Lee valued a Christian life. To that end, he sought knowledge and salvation initially through his home church, Tenth Street Baptist Church. Ultimately, Lee gained solace at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Washington, DC, where he frequently attended, when he was working on Sunday afternoons. He believed when he also copied: "Yesterday is history; tomorrow is a mystery; today is a gift." Lee is survived by two sisters who loved him, Kathy S. Williams and Anita G. W. Fogan; a compassionate sister-in-law, Lois Williams, and two nephews, Lymond Jr. and Darryl; a cherished niece, Avonda S. Fogan and her father, Hubert Von Fogan; a dear uncle and aunt, Charles and Catherine Jones; his adored godchildren, Tyrone, Lesley, Quenton, Leah; and, a tremendous host of relatives and friends. Jimille and I were in the same classroom and classes from the 3rd through the 12th grades. Unlike our other Coolidge classmates, we went to Taft Jr. High School. We had so many daily conversations about the most mundane things, and she always had that wonderful cheerful personality. I regret that we lost contact with each other after high school. She was likethe sister that I never had. I guess that the best way to explain the significance of our friendship is to tell everyone that my oldest daughter is named Jamille. Although she did not play the cello like Jimille, she did played the violin and piano. My second daughter played the cello. Jimille will always have a place in my heart.

From Bruce Shulman on July 10th, 2013
Jimille's passing is particularly sad for me for several reasons. In high school I will always remember her as a smart, beautiful person inside and out. She was a vivacious cheerleader who always made everyone feel happy. Even during the many years she was confined to a wheelchair, she never even gave a hint of feeling sorry for herself. Rather, she just acted the way she always had, and gave the impression that she was just playing the hand life had given her. I will miss seeing her when we have our 50th reunion in 2016.

Obituary | |
Leroy, who has been a staple in the DC music scene and abroad, can probably be most recognized as the saxophonist for Chuck Brown and The Soul Searchers. As a matter of fact, in the 1978 hit “Bustin Loose”, you can hear Chuck calling for Leroy to “Give us some of that horn right here!” This was leg-way to the popular horn line that was not only used in the song “Bustin Loose”, but also the hit “We Need Some Money.”
But Leroy’s history in the music industry goes back even further than the Soul Searchers. In fact, he was also a member of the band The Young Senators (also known as “The Emperors of Go-Go”). A band that not only gave us such hits as “Jungle” and “Boogie Music”, but was also the backup band for Motown’s Eddie Kendricks when he left the Temptations for a solo career, on such songs as “My People Hold On” and “Keep On Truckin”.

Parney went to Coolidge and hung out with my brother, the late Kenneth Haynesworth of the class of '71.Parney and my brother used to get into all kinds of stuff together and remember Parney would always make a point of picking with me whenever he and my brother were around. It was my father that gave Parney his first job in construction. Later when I became Meter Division Manager for DC Water, Parney would always want me to "hook him up" and get his meters on projects installed quickly. My answer was always I'd see what I could do, but he would hound me, and bug me and basically harass me until the meters were in. Parney was a great friend and I want to extende my heartfelt condolences to his family.

Coach Farello was a great coach, mentor, and human being. As the Co-Chairman of the Class of 1979's 25th Reunion I was privileged as were my classmates to pay special tribute to Coach Farello as our guest of honor. He was very appreciative of our gesture, but for me it was a chance to reach back to a special man that made a difference to myself and my classmates so many years ago. He is at rest now in the Lord's hands, but his spirit and memory will live on in us. Be at peace, Coach. We love you.

Please be advised of the passing of our classmate, Carl Tillman, on Saturday, December 18, 2010. To be "absent from the body" is to be "present with the Lord" (2 Cor. 5:8). We believe and abide in the peace of knowing and trusting in God's assurance that... Death is not so much an exit out of this life as it is an entry into the Lord's presence in a very personal sense. ![]() |
